We offer quilting services for your quilt tops. We prefer to work on the smaller quilts and not the giant ones. Our specialty is in using patterns that will let your quilt top stand out. What this means is that our quilting services are not designed to be tiny patterns, but rather we use medium sized patterns to support the quilt’s structure and let your work shine. We can provide the batting materials and backing fabric if you prefer. We like to provide the ‘dedication’ for the back of the quilt in embroidery, but this is just an option.
When you choose to have your quilt top completed by BG Sewing, here are some tips:
- Try to square up your quilt. If you do not know how or can not accomplish this, we can do this for you and will try to get your quilt top in the condition it needs to be in to be quilted.
- Make sure your quilt top seams are all intact.
- Baste stitch each side of the quilt top to secure the fabric so that it does not stretch out of proportion. Basting stitches should be less than ¼ inch from the edge.
- Laundering your quilt top and backing fabric are not necessary. We prefer to work on quilt tops that have not been laundered. But if you provide the quilt top with the backing, then they either both need to not be laundered or both be laundered.
- If you have any pets or put the quilt top on the floor, please use an adhesive roller to remove all the pet hair and carpet/floor fuzzies that accumulate on the surfaces, before you send it to us. We can not quilt hair and fuzzies into your quilt and make it look nice.
- Press your quilt top and your seams.
- Measure your quilt top as best as you can. This will help us give you a better idea of how much it will cost for the completed quilt. We will measure the quilt top on our work tables for accuracy.
- If you provide the backing material, please provide at least 8-12 inches wider than the widest part of your quilt top, and at least 18-24 inches longer than the longest part of your quilt top. We can help you figure out how much material you will need.
- The binding for the quilt will also need to be provided if you choose your quilt to be bound by BG Sewing. We can help you figure out how much material you will need. If you choose to apply the binding yourself, we will square up the unbound quilted quilt before we return it to you.
- The type of batting is very important. It needs to be of a type that can take larger quilting patterns as this will have a better draping effect, it will not bunch after many launderings, and it will look better into the future. We can provide the batting, as we always have a polyester blend in stock in large rolls.
- Quilting services are not an exact science, and it is very difficult to quote an exact price for quilting of a product that is sight unseen. There are challenges and pitfalls along the way that may cause increased and unforeseen costs, such as all of the items listed above.
- We know that you worked hard on your quilt top and we will try our best to provide you with an awesome finished product. So if any of the items above are ones you need help with, we can provide that help, but some of those extra services can incur extra costs. When you receive an estimated price for the quilting services, please keep this in mind.
